Again Rob’s forecast is right:) It was really foggy when we woke up but we went to Sarlat to do some shopping in the supermarket and by the time we got there it had all cleared. We saw a kingfisher near where we stopped at Soleil Plage and watched him for ages on a twig opposite where the canoes are hired out. The man didn’t turn up here so we went down to Vitrac and got our canoe from there. On the way we saw lots of baby Coypu on the golf course! We got into the canoe about 11.20 and the man pushed us out so we didn’t even get our feet wet. It was glorious. Not quite a beautiful day but sunny with cloud and the river was beautiful. We went down mainly at the edge of the river where we saw another 3 kingfishers, 2 heron which took off together and flew right past us up stream, lots of fish, chubsters and perch including a huge one and then right at the end we saw a red squirrell! What a wonderful day for spotting wildlife. We went through La Roque Gageac, Castelnaud La Chappelle and Beynac. We loved the chateau and the castles and really missed the boys when we stopped for our picnic on the island in the middle of the river at the Castelnaud. We went there when they were little and they loved it, especially the trebuchet which fired pooh, dead bodies and dead horses at the enemy! Last time we canoed they were so little and we stopped for our picnic in the same place. We took our time and finally got to the bridge beyond Beynac where we had to stop and get on a bus to have the ride back to the van. It was 5 o’clock so 6 hours in all. It was a lot less hair raising than the trip back after our canoe down the gorge on the Tarn in June!! It was a fairly big coach with several people on it (mainly English:(). We came back through all the towns we had canoed through so it was very nice. Had a cuppa and a sit on the river back at Vitrac Canoe place and saw another kingfisher! They are like sparrows!!!! Saw 7 today in total and Mag 5. We went back to the soleil plage riverbank and fished for a while. Had to download big camera pictures onto the laptop as I have filled up the card! Watched them back tonight only took an hour!!!
Still hundreds on the small camera + video – should keep me occupied when I get home.
